The best wedding photographers in Italy

      Photographer of the Year ANFM

Also this year the awards ceremony was held by ANFM, the only national association of wedding photographers, which established who are the best wedding photographers in Italy.
For years now, the association has boasted more than 500 professional photographers, who compete in this important contest to win first place.
Awarded as the best wedding photographer in Italy, Giandomenico Cosentino tells us how his passion for this profession was born and reveals the secret to being a good wedding photographer.
What does it mean for you to receive such an important recognition?

I have always believed in the importance of this type of competition, as it represents a moment of comparison and important growth among fellow photographers.
The satisfaction is even greater if you think about how the level of wedding photography has risen in Italy and in the world in recent years. This is why it is important to keep growing as a photographer and keep looking for an increasingly personal language, in order to stand out among many good photographers.
What is your approach to wedding photography and how do you stand out?

I love reportage photography and street photography and these passions constantly influence also my wedding photoshoots. I am satisfied with the result when at the end of the day I take home photos that will be precious memories for the couple and that at the same time represent my way of looking at the world.
I like the idea that my photographic style stands out for an ironic and, at the same time, elegant look and perhaps this is the reason why I received the prize for best photographer of the year.
What is your ideal wedding to photograph?

With experience, I realized that I can give my best in weddings where the couple trust me. My ideal wedding is one in which there is a relationship of complicity with the spouses and in which there are relaxed times that allow me to focus not only on them but also on all the details, the guests and situations that surround them : only in this way can you tell the atmosphere of such a special day through more creative and spontaneous photographs, managing to create a true wedding reportage, full of emotions.
Do you prefer weddings in Italy or abroad?

I love to travel and if I can do it for work I am even happier. I receive several requests for weddings throughout Italy and abroad and despite being very close to Genoa and Liguria I admit that it is always a great stimulus to know other different places and cultures. Just think that the third place album in 2018 and the first place album in 2019 are related to weddings that I took away from home: London and Tuscany respectively.
Being a destination wedding photographer allows me to work even in times when weddings are unlikely to be celebrated in Italy. In fact, Italian couples tend to get married mainly in the summer and being available to travel allows you to photograph weddings all over the world in other seasons.
Among the various awards obtained in 2019 there is also the award for best album of the year, a story of a beautiful wedding in Tuscany. What do you think the judges found special in this work?

The evaluation criteria to establish the album ranking are different: you need to have a good technique but also creativity and originality. I believe that my wedding reportage in Tuscany does stand out above all for its originality, thanks also to an accurate editing of the photographs that has allowed me to narrate the wedding in a flowing and creative way.
thanks to all this aspects my album has obtained the first prize in place of other high quality works made by the best wedding photographers in Italy.

Do you want to say a few words also for the third place obtained in the Silvia Agus Contest?

Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of meeting Silvia, but in these years as an associate in ANFM I have heard a lot about her, how she was and how she loved life and her job. Every year this photo contest, dedicated to her memory, takes place.Last year I was part of the jury and this year, by participating, I managed to get on this podium too, honored by this result that contributed to the final chart to obtain the GRAND AWARD 2019.
